Public Presentation
-Saturday 24 May at 1:30 pm, Curator Alison Devine Nordström will give a public presentation titled Terrible Beauty: The Art and Politics of Photographs, which will be followed by an open discussion with artists Craig J. Barber and Louie Palu. Free Admission.
This symposium is a meeting of the Politics and the Arts research team of the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Political Thought and Conceptual Change and several Canadian and American academics, artists and journalists.
Additional External keynote speakers will include:
Christopher Browning, author of Collected Memories: Holocaust History and Postwar Memories (2003), Dominick LaCapra, author of Writing History, Writing Trauma (2000), and Alison Nordström (co-author of Ghosts in the Landscape: Vietnam Revisited (2006). Michael Donovan, producer and writer of the film Shake Hands with the Devil, concerning Romeo Dallaire in Rawanda, and Sylvia Hamilton, director of the 2007 documentary The Little Black Schoolhouse on segregated schooling in Canada.
This event will be open to the public.
