AFGHAN STORIES: BEHIND THE HEADLINES A Presentation by Photojournalist Paula Lerner
Metro Boston Event
Thursday, June 19th at 7:00 p.m. Medford Public Library 111 High Street (Route 60) Medford, Massachusetts 02155
Plenty of news stories out of Afghanistan cover the ongoing insurgency and hardships of war. But few tell of how people are rebuilding in war’s aftermath.
Since 2005 Boston-based photojournalist Paula Lerner has made multiple trips to Afghanistan to document the lives of women in that country. At this presentation she will show the multimedia feature “The Women of Kabul,” produced in collaboration with the washingtonpost.com (archived online here: http://tinyurl.com/yxozja ), as well as present “Hidden Lives,” a multimedia piece on women in Kandahar. Both of these features give women in different walks of life a chance to tell their powerful stories, opening a window on a world that has been largely unknown or closed to Western observers.
Please join us for a lively presentation and discussion. The program is free and open to the public.
The Medford Public Library is located on Route 60 in Medford Square. For further information or directions, please call 781-395-7950, or visit http://www.medfordlibrary.org.
