Alan Lessig is the Director of Photography for the Army Times Publishing Company, owned by Gannett. Army Times, based outside of Washington DC, is an independent, civilian media group that covers the military in-depth and publishes 10 separate newspapers and magazines about the military. Lessig has covered the war in Iraq, embedding with Army and Air Force units during the initial invasion in 2003 and on subsequent deployments in 2004. He is a former staff photographer for The Detroit News, where he covered a wide range of sports and news assignments, including two Olympic Games, professional and college football, the Red Wings hockey team, World Cup Soccer, and Presidential campaigns. His hockey photos were published in two books about the Red Wings Stanley Cup Championships, Quest for the Cup and Believe. Previously, he worked as a newspaper photographer in San Bernardino, California for The Sun, and in Louisville, Kentucky for The Louisville Courier-Journal, where he was member of the staff that was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for coverage of a drunk-driving bus accident that killed 27 people.
