PROFESSIONAL PHOTO COMPETITION : “BEAUTY IN AFRICA IN ALL OF ITS STATES”

The Delegation of the European Union to the African Union, in partnership with the African Union, launches a photo competition for professional photographers residing in Africa.
“Beauty in Africa in all of its states” has been chosen to promote a positive representation of the continent, but also to encourage creative, original and personal photography representations of a modern Africa.
Prizes & promotion:
Five winners (one for each African region: North, South, West, East, and Central Africa) will be selected by an internationally renowned jury:
− 1 great winner (first prize): 3,000 euros worth of photographic equipment.
− 4 second prizes: 1,000 euros worth of photographic equipment.
The images submitted by these 5 winners will be exhibited during the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) at the end of January 2011. The 5 winning photographers will be invited to attend the exhibition, and will be offered to participate in a specifically designed photography workshop organized in parallel. This event will also benefit from substantial media coverage.
This competition is open to professional photographers of African or European origins currently residing in Africa.
Submissions should be sent between 12 November and 23 December 2010 at the latest.

Submissions should include the following:
− 3 images maximum and their respective captions. The images must have been taken since May 2007. Images should be sent as digital files saved in Jpg format in 72 dpi (20cm max on the longest side), but should be available in high resolution (300 dpi, 40cm minimum) for printing if selected for the exhibition.
− A short biography of the photographer.
− The contact details of the photographer (name, address, country of residence, telephone, email).
