Alexander Garcia is a Chicago-based photographer and photojournalist with twenty years professional experience. He specializes in portraiture, events, travel and feature projects and documentary work. His versatility and creativity has led him to staff positions at the Los Angeles Times and currently the Chicago Tribune, where he has worked on several national and international projects. Among numerous national and state awards, including Illinois Photographer of the Year from the Illinois Press Photographers Association, he received a Golden Eye – 1st Place award from the World Press Photo contest in Amsterdam, the world’s most prestigious photography contest. He also shares a Pulitzer Prize with the staff of the Chicago Tribune for coverage of gridlock at O’Hare. Garcia was selected to participate in the largest photo book project ever undertaken “America 24/7” . He had three photos published from among the million photos submitted by more than 1000 participating photographers. He was also one of 125 top photojournalists in the country chosen for the special book project “A Day in the Life of the U.S. Armed Forces”, in which he was also published. Over the past decade Garcia has spent almost a year in Cuba, most working in the bureau of the Chicago Tribune, the first U.S. newspaper to open a permanent bureau on the island. Garcia lives in the Chicago area with his wife, Laura Husar Garcia, a freelance picture editor and photographer.

Fotoperiodista.com, Fotoreportero.com, for sale soon

I have owned the domains fotoperiodista.com and fotoreportero.com for the past 5 years, but have decided to part with them. I thought I would use or develop them at some point, but life intervened. I believe they are best utilized by my colleagues in Latin America or in regions in which Spanish is more common. I’m a photojournalist living in Chicago who isn’t going anywhere soon!

The auction ends in 6 days. My asking price for each was $70, and the reserve has been met. By next Saturday, they will be sold. So don’t procrastinate!

If I could cover my registration expenses, and put it in the hands of someone who will use it, I’d be happy. I’m not looking to get rich here (from deep pocketed photojournalists no less! :-))

The domains could be used by news shooters, but maybe also by wedding photojournalists. They could have many uses – for a photographer site, a photo gear site, an association site, a social network, an online magazine, etc.. It has a lot of global potential.

They are being sold through the very reputable Sedo.com, which has both a Spanish and English interface. They have an escrow services, so everyone’s protected – especially me!:-)
For some reason, though, it won’t accept Visa from Argentina.

If you know anyone who might benefit, please let them know, and feel free to forward my contact information. I speak/write Spanish and can answer any concern or question.

The auctions can be accessed by typing the domain names in a browser (www.fotoperiodista.com or www.fotoreportero.com). The person will be redirected to the bid page. Or they can go to Sedo.com and search from there…

For any question or doubt, I can be reached at the following places. I’m keeping this process fully transparent.

Thanks much everyone,
Alex Garcia
