Alexandros entered the arts studying percussion in the Athens Conservatory and had been an active/professional performer for almost ten years, (1996-2006).
As a photographer, Alexandros started practicing the art at an early age, mainly focusing in landscape and urban architecture. Later, inspired by the works of Arnold Newman, Jeff Wall and Gregory Crewdson, the photographer’s interest turns to environmental portraiture seeking a visual language, to understand and communicate the relations between humans/persons and the forms that constitute our living environment.
Since 2002 Lamprovasilis has been working as a professional published photographer through assignments from various publications and organizations. In 2006 he moves to USA in order to pursue influences and knowledge. He resides in New York City.
Working on assignments he has portrayed:
Philip Roth, Noam Chomsky, Mike Dukakis, Tommy Hilfiger, John Varvatos, Victor Navasky, William Rhoden, George Lois, Sir Micheal Lewellyn Smith, Arrigo Cipriani, Joe Locke, Sergio Salvatore, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Paul Szilard and others.
As he comments on environmental portraiture:
“In an attempt to describe a person’s character/temperament – capturing the relation the individual forms with the surrounding context and its properties – the human element appears, every now and then embedded in the forms of our environment”.
Essentialy, the photographer uses light as the catalyst to blend the duality of figure and space into a “Dramatic” – Theatrical image".
