About

Andrea Ruggeri was born in 1980 in Rome, where he studied philosophy. In 2002 he began to photograph and since has collaborated with magazines and video productions as a freelance photographer. He dedicated his work to social themes, covering some of the most delicate Italian neighbourhoods like Scampia (Napoli), and Corviale (Rome). Between 2005 and 2007 he travelled through South America, where he taught photography in an indigenous reservation in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, as part of a project with the University of São Paulo. During this time he completed his work about Guarani indigenous people of Southern Brazil and miners in Potosi, Bolivia. His pictures have appeared in Scampia, at “Periferie del Mondo” festival, and at the 2007 “Festival Internazionale di Roma” of photography, where he showed work about the life of a Roman street artist.
