I am about to leave the British Army after 7 years and want to keep taking photos of conflict and disaster relief (there’s a link on my profile page to a website of my work). I find that having been in Iraq and Afghanistan, weddings and landscapes just don’t interest me as much as the human emotion you see in times of distress. A few things in my favour; I know how to handle myself around dangerous situations; I’m half Chinese and half English, so can blend in, in most places; and I speak passable Chinese (Mandarin and an understanding of Cantonese), Farsi and French.
What’s the best way to get into this type of photojournalism?
