5D Mark II .mov conversion for FinalCut Express

I thought I’d be able to just import my 5D Mark II .mov files into FinalCut Express and edit, but I found out that these files (as-is) require repeated rendering.
Anyone know of a good program to convert the files so they can be edited without all this rendering?
Right now, the only thing I’ve been able to do is import the files, export them as a quicktime movie and then import that movie into a new project, but the export is very time-consuming as well.
