Born in Surabaya 22 years ago, Artika is a self-taught photographer. She took Visual Communication Design major in college, but she loves photojournalism and decides to do more works on documentary. She learned photojournalism through communities and experts, both in real world and virtual world.
Most of her projects are about women and Islam culture, although her interests are generally in social issues. Beside photography world, she loves drawing, typography, and paper toys, too.
She had won several awards, for example Best of the Best Yamaha Photo Contest for Surabaya Region in 2008 and Whiskas Moment Photo Contest in 2011. She also listed as one of top 20 nominees of a documentary movie competition in Indonesia, Eagle Awards, in 2010.
Now she contributes for National Geographic Traveler Indonesia, for East Java region and also a photography teacher at two Junior High Schools in Surabaya, Indonesia.
