I’m a photographer in Washington DC, where I was born. Freelance since 1995.
I’ve traveled quite a bit in Eastern Europe and the Balkans for a ten-year body of work called East, looking at the evolution of the region since the end of communism. Over the years my assignment work has been published in Das Magazin, New York Times Magazine, Newsweek, Le Figaro, New York Times, Washington Post, among many others, and has won awards from the Nat’l Press Photographers Association.
I’ve received a couple of grants for the East series, which debuted at a solo show in Warsaw in 2008. I currently teach photography, do documentary-style weddings and work on my own projects. I’ve also photographed cover art for several Thievery Corporation CDs.
