Book makers in NY...

Any suggestions for a service that does book dummies from prints? Not outrageously expensive, but good quality. Any idea of turn around time?

Jessica, Wouldn’t it be cheaper just to make rough scans of the prints yourself and then throw them in InDesign and make an Epson book? Davin

Also, you could just do the mac books off of the apple website. They are ar cheap, relatively good quality and are quick turn around. . . Davin

I found a bookmaker online in CA, haven’t used her though,…. http://www.nabookarts.com/about.html …I think she’s not working at the moment due to a new baby but she’s got a former assistant who’s making books. Eriko Yahiro eriko@yahirobookarts.com and 415.307.7116. I’ve got them on my short list for possible bookmakers, their stuff looks really nice too and they seem to work with photographers a good bit as well.

Depending on how much you wanted to spend both Fastback Books and Asuka can do about a 30 page book, hardback, very nice quality for about $200, I think they both go up to 80 or 100 pages. They’re not prints but it’s a really cool, high-quality actual book. Fastback has a small office in the city, I was just there yesterday and met with Oliver. They’re on 23rd bet. 5th and 6th. Asuka is very similar. Asuka is in Oregon, their turnaround time is about 3 weeks or so but Fastback says their turnaround can be a week.

Check out LULU. They do hard back books now and they’re gorgeous. It’s inexpensive and if you get the PDF file right, it’ll blow your mind.

Damn, and I thought someone was going to recommend a bookie where I could get some good odds on a horse race.
