Boryana Katsarova, born in Bulgaria in 1981, is a freelance photographer specializing in documentary, editorial&portrait photography and is represented by the Paris based COSMOS Photo Agency.
2010-present – Freelance Photographer
- 2007 2010 — Photographer for Agence France-Presse, covering on a daily basis the local and international spot, political and feature stories in Bulgaria. Her work appeared in the world largest newspapers,magazines and online publications around the world.
2012 Finalist of the 2013 Aftermath Grant /USA/ with the ongoing documentary project on post-conflict Kosovo.
2012 Juror Award of Merit in the Street Photography/Documentary category in the International Fine Art Photography Competition, Paris, France.
2011 POYi Community Awareness Award, USA, Finalist with “Lonely Bulgaria”.
2011 “Lonley Bulgaria” Project was nominated for ANI Coup de Coeur Photo Prize 2011 during the Perpignan Visa pour l’Image Festival in France and took part in the participants exhibition there.
2011 “Canon Picture of the year”, Bulgaria 2011, First place Photo Essay Category for “Lonely Bulgaria”.
2005 “Canon Picture of the year”, Bulgaria 2005, First place in the Photo Essay Category for “Unseen World”, Out of Sight Bulgarian Visually Impired People Strugle to Survive”.
2005 BG Press Photo, Everyday Life Stories for “Dependence”, Third place.
2004 First place, Photo Essay Category for PFAW ”People from Another World”, visual story about the inhabitants in one of the biggest Bulgarian Psychiatric clinics. Competition was organized by the Bulgarian Center for Media Development and the American Embassy in Bulgaria.

Personal Documentary Projects:
2011— Ongoing “Water Stories” project, a personal journey through the world of the water and the connections people have with it.
2010-2012 — “Lonely Bulgaria," a documentary essay that explores social situations in rural Bulgaria. This project expresses my personal fight against poverty, loneliness, and depopulation in my country today.
2004-2006 “PFAW" (People from Another World) is a visual story about the everyday life of those living in a Bulgarian psychiatric clinic during the years of transition to democracy.
2004-2005 “Unseen World”: Out of Sight Bulgarian Visually Impaired People Struggle to Survive”.
