Photojournalist Brian Sokol, born 1975, has been documenting life in Asia for more than a decade. A fluent Nepali speaker, he has covered stories ranging from armed conflict in the Himalayas to the changing caste politics of 21st century India.
His photographs appear regularly in publications including The New York Times, TIME, Stern, Der Spiegel, l’Espresso, Outside and Travel and Leisure.
National Geographic Magazine awarded him the 2007 Eddie Adams Grant. The prize is given annually to one young photographer in his or her first 3 years of professional experience.
His story on Tibetan Protests was selected as the opening projection of the 20th anniversary Visa Pour l’Image festival in Perpignan, France. His work has been exhibited in the USA, Japan, Korea, Nepal, and projected at the Angkor Photography Festival in Cambodia.
In 2008 Brian was named one of PDN’s 30 Emerging Photographers to Watch.
He is currently based in New Delhi, India and available for assignment.
