Bringing Leicas to Nicaragua

I’m bringing my two M6s with 35 and 50 summicrons. Should I be worried about theft, or do people there mostly not know that Leicas are worth so much? Anybody been there recently and have advice to share?

I also have an F100 that I could bring. It wouldn’t be as bad if that got stolen but it does look more modern so would it be more likely to get stolen?

Any help is much appreciated.

i’ve brought my M8s to honduras and mexico dozens of times. standard & usual security practices should do fine:

he has a ton of useful information about traveling with camera gear.

I travel to Central America all the time for work (I shoot for an NGO) and never has anyone even given my cameras a second look. I shoot with leica, xpan, 5D and 40D. I wouldn’t worry about your cameras there anymore than I would in Seattle or anywhere else in the 48. Insurance is a good idea anywhere, but check your policy to be sure it is valid internationally.

GET insurance!!

Not much robbery here but thieves do know what a Leica is and its value.

During big media events (elections, rallys, etc.) IT those cameras that get stolen.

USe common sense and get insurance.

Thanks for all the info. It’s a bit late now to get insurance, so I think I’ll just bring one M6, 35 and 50 cron, and the F100 with my Nikkor 50 f/1.4. That way if everything gets stolen or lost I still have one body and lens (M6 and 35mm Zeiss Biogon).

I’m not worried about stuff getting stolen, but I don’t want to be stuck with no cameras in the event that I do somehow lose my gear in Nicaragua.
