B+W Film Developing In Berlin
|
Yes, it is true, I am traveling this time without my film developing kit and scanner….
So, does anyone know a good, cheap place to get your B+W film developed in Berlin, or a darkroom I could rent to do it myself?
Thank you!

The one place I know of is Pixel Grain, though I didn’t use them for black and white. They have a good staff and speak English but I don’t think they are too cheap. Might want to keep asking around, maybe someone on Rangefinder Forum will know of a better, cheaper place…

Thanks Damaso, I think I actually used Pixel Grain many years ago, they’re near Alexanderplatz….
I forgot to also ask, though, what is the best place maybe just to buy a photo developing tank and some chemistry? The B+H of Berlin, that is?

They actually have an outlet of Calumet in town:
Adresse: Lützowstrasse 37
10785 Berlin – Tiergarten
Telefon: +49 (0)30-257571-0
Fax: +49 (0)30-264 42 61
Öffnungszeiten: Mo – Fr 9.00 – 18.00 Sa 10.00 – 13.00
Email: berlin@calumetphoto.de
though oddly the one in Hamburg is much bigger. I don’t know if there is a bigger cheaper place in Berlin but these guys were very helpful and if they don’t have it they can get it for you in a day or two. I hope that helps…

Thank you, I went by Fotoimpex and picked up a “damaged” (except that it wasn’t) Holga for 3 Euros, a few rolls of the Czech FOMAPAN film, and some batteries. However, although they sell plastic Patterson developing tanks and reels, and Monochrom:
http://www.monochrom.com/cc/monoc/shop/mainedit.asp?key=mn&val=HOME
sells the metal tanks and reels, both kinds are OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE!!!
http://www.imago-fotokunst.de/
has rental lab, I haven’t called them yet.
So I guess the next question: I found a cute little used photo shop on the Choriner Str., with lots of used Prakticas, Exas, and lots of other such wonderful detritus…(the kind of shop that is now almost extinct in NY and the USA)…
Such shops used to be all across Berlin…do y’all know of others? In Kreuzberg? Further east? More in still un-gentrified corners of Prenzlauer Berg?

Hello Alain,
call me under 0171-5244822 or local 4280 3812. I have a 40sm darkroom with whatever you need also a ATL 1000 for automatic developing.
For U free of charge. we just have to coordinate a bit as I have to process the film I brought from the OPTs yesterday.
Best Kai

Is it true that all, or nearly all, photo shops/labs in Germany that still sell film charge not only for the film itself but for the developing too? Thus leaving you no choice as to where you get it developed. I had my own film supply with me when I was there this summer, but a couple of places I checked in the south said that was the case in Germany. I also heard the same thing from a Belgian photog while he was visiting SE Asia.

Hi Alan
Foto Impex, Alte Schönhauser Straße 32b
Development for one MF roll is about 4 €. With contact print about 9 €. They develop only B&W.
Hope this helps.
Rene.
