Canon film cameras
|
I switched to Canon digital from Nikon digital last year. And now I have decided that I need a 35mm film camera also. But I don’t know the Canon film cameras that well. I’d like it to be usable for professional purposes. Not for sports though. Looking for something to take while traveling, and/or working. Something with an accurate meter, accurate AF but small, and quiet. The Canon EOS 7 looks like it might work for me? Or maybe the Canon A2? Any suggestions/information would be helpful. Thanks.

Canon Elan 7 fits your requirements. I think it’s Canon’s quietest model.

I used an A2 before switching to digital. It’s also a fine camera, cheap, light and easy to use.
|
I think the 7n replaced the A2. I had a 7n and liked it, quietest of the Canon bodies which are otherwise pretty loud. Not bad for the money.

The EOS 5 (which is called something else in the US…the A2?) was used by a lot of news and magazine photographers who didn’t feel the need for an EOS 1. I used mine alongside an EOS 1 and it outlived it. A friend of mine still uses them and has just come back from a trip to Rwanda, where apparently the weather was really rough. It looks plasticky but its bombproof. Nice and quiet, good meter.

Thanks all for the info. My local camera store has a very clean Canon A2 for $195 that I’ll probably pick up. Should do the job, and a bargain to boot. – Ron

I had several A2’s and they were great. However. Three of mine are broken now because of the years of abuse. They are not bult the greatest… So really check out the camera before you buy it used. One problem that always happened to EVERYONE of my A2’s was that the Dial on the top would get stripped. Also the Backs became to loose and eventualy stopped locking. Good luck Joshua

no, go up the ladder. EOS 3 or EOS 1n. cheap used. better than the other models.

I have an EOS 1V….its a tank…i dropped it in a stomwater drain in paris 3 years ago..it was fully submerged in the water. I took it back to my hotel and thought..oh well..it must be screwed. But I blew the water off with some canned air then tried turning it on. It was fine…could I do that with my digi camera?...perhaps not.

If your looking then i agree with alan, EOS 3 or EOS 1n. both excel. body, step up a notch with maybe a 1V if you have the dosh. Have both a 3 and a 1V which i carry for shooting slide. i’m not not going to depart with it anytime soon. find someone who has either of these bodies and test it out for yourself, and try and the feel for it. very rare for pro’s carry a fi9lm these days with the lastest tech from digi but i’m of the old school with film cameras. good luck Ron

Hey Ron The canon EOS 1N i bought a couple of years ago have survived what my digital did not and I’m talking very wet, humid weather. Great light meter and cheap, second hand. is not as noisy as the old models and it’s a real survivor. Good luck, c

EOS 1v is the best. However, because of the price, I feel more comfortable travelling with an EOS 1. Been trying to kill my EOS 1´s, so I can justify a replacement, but they will not die… Cheap cameras, good glass ought be the motto for travel.
