cheap air fare?

Who has “named their own price” on priceline.com? how does this work, what are the risks, mother will she brake my heart? looking for international tickets.

I’ve tried hotwire, orbitz and travelocity, maybe gas price is just too high. I knew that war would impact my life sooner or later. damn.

i’ve never bought tickets on priceline, but have named my own price, or attempted to for intl travel.  to compare i first entered something like 300, and got a price for 350, then jsut to see i entered 10 and the prices where much lower so i reccomend you try it.  usualy you have a layover and they pick the route although there’s a limit on how long your stuck waiting, i rember it wasnot too bad.  also i don’t think they let you gain milage, so i’d read the fine print if i where you (in general airlines now are only giving limited milage for cheap tickets. in the case of aa ba an dhteir partners it can be as bad as 25%).......also re travelocity yes i think gas has affeced prices, but if oyu’re traveling in the autunm then prices usually start to drop in spet and if you can wait until sept to purchase i reccomend that since all quotes are higher now. i find that travelocity is pretty good because you can use flexible dates, additionally wednesdays are usually the cheapest day to fly.  best of luck,

j

If you can get a cheap flight to London you might save money buying an onward ticket from there.
To book online flights from London check out: http://www.cheapflights.co.uk/

Also, there’s a website with a list of some discount airlines in Asia and the ME: http://wikitravel.org/en/Discount_airlines_in_Asia#China

in Europe: http://wikitravel.org/en/Discount_airlines_in_Europe#Points_to_consider

Eros, if you’re currently in the Bay Area, rather than priceline, etc you might try Holiday Adventure Travel, they’re on Sutter in SF a block or two from Union Square. They’re best for South and East Asia and I’ve never done better on a flight than I have using them. Kamla Lama is one of two agents there who has been a magician on short notice, wierd flights over the years: 800-559-5513.

Hiya Eros - nice spread in Bicycling - I haven’t used priceline in a while, and I think the system may have changed, but when I used it a few years ago, I remember getting really screwed on the flight times. I was flying at 6am, etc. But I do remember getting a couple of good last-minute deals. I would say exhaust all of the other avenues, and if you don’t find travel dates or a price you’re happy with, give priceline a try. You might just hit the lottery. Cheers and bon voyage…
