Chinese customs - Photography restrictions

Hello,

Does anyone have experience entering/leaving China with
cameras and film as a tourist? I will have a 5D, Mamiya 7,
around 70 rolls of 220 and laptop. I have heard mixed
messages about airport customs restictions.
If anyone has firsthand experience it will help.

Thanks – JP

Don’t worry, I brought my lowepro backpack there with gear that might make some Chinese officials suspect that I was a foreign journalist as opposed to a tourist. No one even bothered to check. Bring it as a carry on if possible.

No problems leaving out of Shanghai or Beijing, a carry-on is the best advice. Hand inspections is another issue however.

Been there a few times with a good 30-40 rolls of film coming home. Never had a problem.
