Nikon creative lighting

Somewhat disillusioned with the nikon SB800 and SB600 for event photography, does anyone have any experience with the ring flashes, particularly the newer ones which have two-three flash units housed around the lens? They aren’t cheap so welcome some advice before i splash out.
