Christmas presents for photo editors and clients?

Hey Lightstalkers,

Christmas time is coming and I am wondering if photo editors and clients should get a little Christmas present from me… Since this is my first year of really having regular clients I am wondering if this is usual practice or if it would be over the top dropping something that could be seen as bribe present, which in fact it would be in some way…

The Jackanory touched this topic on his blog today. By the way: What’s The Jackanory is together with Drinking with a Dead Man and A Photo Editor my favourite blog.

So how do you deal with Christmas in conjunction with your clients?

Thanks,
Martin

You know, you are the one doing your media clients the favor. I would never give a gift to an editor unless he or she were a friend in addition to the business relationship. This is journalism, remember?

I might send a wedding client a gift, though, since that’s purely a commercial endeavor and serves to remind the couple of happy times and happy pictures—and the need to purchase more.

I haven’t done it, but I have thought that if I were to send something at the holidays, it would a small actual signed print on a card or something like that..a gift, but also something they can remember me with.

Spend money to generate money might be useful. Some prefer donations made in the name of the donor. At least someone that surely has more need than we do can benefit from those gifts.
If it is appreciated then we are all happy about it, if it is not appreciated, would you like to make business with such folks?

Ciao,
Alessandro

Send a xmas card of your best image with your contact just as a nice reminder of your existance.

We send a photoshopped card with all photo staff on it.

feliz Navidad!

I have been sending a Christmas card with my image to my photograhic print buyers for some years.

I wish I had done the same with photo editors and the like since I have had sporadic publications of my photos since 1991. I don’t remember when I started sending my Christmas card to my print clients, but I started the practice when I started getting a card from a photo business I used.
