About

I am a freelance photojournalist and documentary photographer based in Madison, Wis available for both editorial and corporate work in the Minnesota/Wisconsin/Iowa/Illinois area. I’ve previously held an internship with the Wisconsin State Journal, been published in most large papers within Wisconsin, and was photo editor, senior staff photographer and web editor at my college paper, The Daily Cardinal. I have also traveled widely in the US, Eastern Africa and Western Europe documenting differing cultural norms.

For news, I’ve covered Mardi Gras, Bonnaroo, the Iowa caucuses, Wisconsin and Texas primaries as well as national and state election events. I’ve also had the pleasure to cover many protests, rallies, sit ins, fires, concerts and various natural disasters. All in addition to regular daily newspaper portrait and feature assignments.

For sports, I’ve previously covered the Outback Bowl, Capital One Bowl, the 2006 NCAA Frozen Four Hockey Championships and most every UW Badgers’ football, hockey and basketball game in the last three years in addition to volleyball, wrestling, soccer, track and swimming. I’m an avid snowboarder and have photographed most large board sports and many of the large ski/snowboard resorts as well.

Scanner On the Cheap Suggestions?

While I shoot a lot of digital I have a bad habit of shooting film for most of my personal work (which, since I’m freelancing, is most of my work).

Back when I was in school the paper I worked with had it’s own Canon scanner and I’ve used Nikon Coolscans quite a bit in the past as well. While those scanners were quite nice and produced images that could be easily printed the size of a wall (which I did once) I can’t afford one my self right now.

The question is this; I know that many of you still shoot film and I’m wondering what you use for cheap scanners? I’m looking probably towards a flatbed as I’d like to make contact sheets with it as well as scan 110 negatives and my 2 1/4’’x3 1/4’’ mini Speed Graphic negatives. I’m talking cheap here, I really just need something that will do contact sheets, web gallery quality and 5’’x7’’ work prints (which don’t need to be that great). Thanks for the help everyone.
