Cleaning Camera Bags?
|
My cat just pissed all over one of my Billinghams.
Never bothered cleaning any camera bags before. Any specific way of cleaning and getting the cat piss out without damaging the thing?
The washing machine is out, right?
Cheers,
Jason.

bring it over, i’ll ask my maid to clean it for you.

I’d rather send the cat over.
She pisses on my bag, she sits on my scanner, she scratches my face, and she is always hungry.
Fancy a free cat, Guilad?
|
Sure, send away… medium rare with sticky rice on the side?

I think you may be able to hire the cat out. I know some young photogs who will go to great ends to make their new bags look old and heavily used. But getting a cat to whizz on it is an entirely new possibility.

Hydrogen peroxide helps to get blood off a Domke… never had a billingham…
|
A good pet supply store will carry a selection of urine and fecal stain and odor removing liquids, “Natures Miracle” is a good brand.

problem with billinghams is the leather,
a domke you could just throw in the washing machine, as neal alludes to people do this to get their bags to look more worn.
could probably get it dry cleaned.

piss on the cat.won’t get your bag cleaned, but you will feel better;)

Kill the cat. What Gregory S. said about the stain and odor remover. Your friendly cat has now marked your camera bag. The smell (to the cat) will persist unless it’s cleaned effectively.
|
Thanks for all the suggestions.
As killing the cat isn’t really an option, I settled on giving the bag a good scrub and applying some leather stuff to the leather.
And as tempted as I am by the possibility of keeping a dog in the bag, I’d probably only end up starting a new thread on removing dog piss from camera bags…

i’ve put domkes through the washing machine before… but there’s no leather on those.
