Konbonwa, Okahara-sama. I shoot for the USCG PA Department, please contact me via email.

I will make a quick note here. USCG policy is not to allow civilians to go out on USCG facilities if its missions include law enforcement or military actions.

USCG Auxiliary personal, who are civilian volunteers go through actual USCG training are prohibited as well from combat operation, and must be crew qualified to even perform a simple ride along on a facility.

Regulations pertaining to non-USCG personnel are even stricter due to clearance requirements set forth by the Department of Homeland Security. Permission for scientist for example to receive to come aboard ice breakers is intense. (They go through NOAA for clearance) Just ask the Discovery Channel what is involved to come aboard a non-combat facility!

Anycase, I can provide contact data through email if you wish.

Hi Aaron,
Can you explain why its so difficult to go underway with the CG? You’d think they (or DHS) would want journos on board even for short floats.
Cheers,
Bill.

Bill… Being a Brooklyn resident, living 2 blocks off the Narrows into NYC, the CG might consider themselves more in the forefront against local terrorism than the big boys. I’ll be interested to hear Aaron’s take on this.
