copyrighting images

this may seem like an ignorant question, but could anyone perhaps provide a bit more info on how to copyright your images? ie, over the web, on cd, addresses and such? i’ve never done it myself.

much thanks,
bryan

Ultra summary.

Once you fix your image in any kind of medium, the copyright attaches automatically. Under US law you have many rights that flow from your fixing that creative work. It helps to imbed somewhere on the photo your name and the date of copyright (e.g., (c) 2007 Bryan Denton).

You can also register the copyright for the US by filing the image with the Library of Congress. This give you even more rights. Read the links from Jonathan above. They will be helpful. In Europe the law is a little different.
