Festivals and Rituals: Photographic Portals of Emotion and Ecstasy
Tuesday March 13, 2007
4 pm
Museum Lecture Hall, Getty Center

Cristina García Rodero, professor, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, joins translator William A. Christian Jr., visiting professor of history at the University of California, Berkeley, to present her photographic studies of festivals and religious rituals in Haiti and India. Rodero concentrates her discussion on photographs from her book Rituales en Haití, the cult of María Lionza, and her recent photographs of the Hindu festivals of Khumba Mela and Holi in India. RoderoÕs photographic studies of festivals and rituals around the world capture extraordinary moments of extreme emotion and ecstasy. The Getty Research Institute holds the largest publicly available collection of Rodero’s work.

I haven’t heard anything about a tour, but I’ll be happy to post an update after the talk if she is talking anywhere else.
