"Crude Reflections" - Chevron in Ecuador - Lou Dematteis & Kayana Szymczak

Book launch party at the Exposure Gallery on Thursday, May 29th, 7pm.

(801 Howard, nearby the Sony Metreon and Powell BART)

From the back of the postcard:

“Photographers Lou Dematteis and Kayana Szymczak take their cameras into Ecuador’s Amazon rainforest and bring back images of the exquisite beauty of the land and its indigenous peoples. They also bring back a darker perspective—shocking images of the devastating effects of Texaco’s (now Chevron) oil extraction practices, both on the environment and on the people who inhabit the region. In the face of diesease, death and the contamination of their land, here is a document of the Ecuadoran people’s front-line fight for environmental justice and their heroic struggle to save their rainforest.”

The authors will be there that night along with a special delegation from Ecuador.

More information on Chevron’s practices at Chevron Toxico.

And Redux has a very brief post with a photo and links.
