I’m trying to get to Lebanon ASAP as all the flights are booked through friday and am wondering whether or not you can currently get Syrian Transit Visas at the border (traveling from Jordan). Hope you guys can fill be in by tomorrow midday.

Don’t worry about the flights being booked already… both MEA and RJ are fully booked for the holiday season but they usually have anywhere between 15-30 empty seats on each flight.. just go to the airport and go standby… you’ll get a seat… I travelled MEA this evening on a fully booked flight, no problem.

I agree with Paul between Royal Jordanian Airline and MEA you have 5 daily flights….

Hi Bryan
As far as I am aware there are no transit visas issued for Syria, just single or multiple entry.
Sounds as if you will get a flight though.
What is the plan when you get to Lebanon-you going south?
Cheers
John

Flying is no good now – Israel bombed Beirut Airport a couple of hours ago. I’m Australian and I’ve been trying to get through to the Syrian Embassy or Consulate to get an urgent Visa so I can land in Damascus. Does anyone know what sort of arrangements the Syrian’s are making seeing as most of us have to pre-arrange a visa before landing?

Obviously the drive from Damascus to Beirut is straightforward enough, just the difficulty in getting into Syria to start with. Or, as an alternative, is anyone travelling by boat from Cyprus?

It is sometimes possible to get Syrian visas on arrival-depending on your passport-Aussies being luckier than most.

Syria issues transit visas at the border, so once you enter Syria there are many ways to get to Lebanon buses and private cars, taxis….

I managed to get a Syrian Visa in 2 hours in Brussels this morning…but it took some serious discussion! I am on my way…

Shit.

I have tried to get on aflight from London to Damascus…everything is booked solid. I have just heard via BBC that Israel is looking to extend it’s blockade to land borders as well.
It loooks like this could be a prolonged affair!!

Bruno who are you flying with from Brussels? Which airline???

OK,

So we’re not getting in on a boat seeing as the Israeli navy will block us. I can’t see a problem in getting from Damascus to Beirut. The problem is getting into Damascus to begin with. Perhaps Europeans can have a good crack at rocking up at the border from Turkey, but for anyone far away it’s a royal pain in the proverbial to get sent back from Damascus airport.

From my experience once you’re in Damascus it’ll be easy, be sure to change some notes into Syrian Pound to help with fuel and “negotiation” along the way in a service cab and you’ll get through. I’m going to hit the phones again in the morning. BTW Mark, I don’t know how Israel plans on blocking transport from Damascus to Beirut, they’ve got the rest well covered though.

Be good to keep in touch with everyone over there. See you soon.

Damascus-Beirut road has been bombed by IDF. Apparently they are eliminating the possiblity of hostage transport to Iran. According to Israel, this is a “High Volume Crisis” not a War. Be safe.

Anyone still trying to get into Lebanon from Syria could check with drivers before-maybe way around, failing that there is another border via Homs into the North at Tripoli.

Ferries from Cyprus is one way to Beirut (still running despite blockade according to people I spoke to this morning) and Emirates has laid on loads of extra flights to Damascus, so have a chat with them too.

I came in to Beirut last night from Damascus from the north, Daboussiyeh border point, hectic, but no problem except massive traffic jam, expect to walk 3 km and to take another car on the lebanese side…

The catamaran from Cyprus used to do it in about 3 hours during better times and there is people around there with fast tubs that will do it for a fee.
