D3 as good as Mk III?

For all you tech heads out there, somebody has had a pre-production Nikon D3 floating about the office the past couple of days… general mood seems to be that it compares equally and indeed perhaps even favourably in some aspects, with the Canon Mk III.

I would say from all that I’ve read that the D3 is noticeably better than the MarkIII. The detail of the images that I’m seeing from the D3 is amazing and the high ISO noise is much better than the MarkIII user samples that I’ve seen.

There’s a new sheriff in town .. and he wears black!

Now it’s Canon’s turn to catch up. And when they do, may the pricing remain Canon, which is below Nikon’s prices.

Read a rumor today speaking of a Mark III N / IV with 16 mpix full frame and HD capture. Funny how the rumours just start all over again when a new camera is released.

Canon 1D Mark III, you know, the one with the much published about AF issues? ;)

That’s good news. The best thing that could happen to us Canon users is for Nikon to lift their game again. For years now Canon has been resting on their laurels and slowing down their development cycle because they didn’t have any meaningful competition. It was so bad that Nikon acknowledged internally that this new camera was their last chance in the professional market (so people who claim to be in the know tell me???). The longer there is meaningful competition in the high-end SLR market the better for all of us.

I can’t believe I’ve been in both Mac vs. PC and a Nikon vs. Canon argument on here within two days.

Yep, the more competition the better, gives us more innovative stuff i guess. Now, hows about a nice FX Nikon Rangefinder, Leica needs some serious competition in the RF market ;)
