Fotostation PRO?

For all not-editing-uses i use Photo-mechanic that are really quick, has no such limitations and gives a really good overview on large collections of files. Especially good on laptops since it does not cache thumbnails but takes it direrctly from the files. Has great features such as directly mail-to and ftp-to acces of files in any size file you want without opening the files. Webgalleries directly from Raw-files are made and uploaded in seconds regardless of large numbers of images. I use this a lot! Cheap as well! (150usd)

many many thanks. Cost IS an issue. The downside of being digital is the huge outlay required to keep up…

I use Lightroom to manage a 90,000 image archive. Any DAM software is going to slow down as you put more photos into it. That said, you might want to try iView, which worked for me till I replaced it with Lightroom.

I’ve used fotostation with an enormous newspaper archive of photos. does the job all the way. it may cost a little though…
but I must say that photo-mechanic seemed very interesting…

The most popular dam softwares for now are Portfolio, Iview mediaPro and Fotostation.

I still reccomend people to use a dam software rather than Lightroom in their workflow but some have managed fine with Lightroom an aperture.

I have now been on the road for over a year and I feel my current workflow is probably the best un til now

I import into lightroom and do ALL the work there (keyword caption and developement)

Then I Import all images into Portfolio and sort them into categories To be worked on.

From Portfolio I keep track of which images have been worked on and which have been sent where and so on.

From Portfolio I open the files in Photoshop and do the final editing and developing of the files.

Having just the laptop and external hard disks this setup has worked fine for me now that I have set up Ligtroom to work the way I want.

Im using Portfolio as I started using it long before Iview came along and it was the best for both Mac and PC. Since then a lot hase changed (and so has Portfolio) and there are more and cheaper options out there.
