There are those rare moments when you know the truth of something because
you see it clearly for the first time. Cartier-Bresson called it the
“decisive moment” when a photograph suddenly reveals itself to you. That
moment came to me at a wedding. As I put down my glass of champagne and
picked up my brother’s camera, I saw the simple truth: two people joining
together with families and friends to celebrate a beginning, a next step,
a new life. Wow. What could be better?
I’m Daniel Stark, a documentary wedding photographer based in Portland,
Oregon. Starting in high school, I knew that photography was something
special. And as a photojournalist for my college newspaper, it became a
real passion as I learned how to frame and find the images that meant the
most to me. But once I realized that photojournalism at its best and most
meaningful is about real people at life’s most important moments, it
became a career. I see wedding photography as simply capturing a love
story through the lens, documenting a new life, revealing those “decisive
moments.”
Some of my work has been featured in National Geographic Magazine online
as well as a number of regional publications. Weddings have even taken me
abroad––the best of all worlds since I love travel and culture. I also
break dance with my twin brother once in awhile. And I have the photos to
prove it. Visit me at danielstarkphotography.com and I’ll show them to
you––along with some of the most moving moments at weddings you’ll ever
see. Guaranteed.
