NYC's Department of Transportation Photography Contest

My name is Daniel Kukla and I am writing on behalf of NYC’s Department of Transportation (DOT) about a photography contest that is being held for DOT’s Summer Streets event. This will be a great opportunity to get out on the transformed streets and participate in a truly unique event. Your photos will help make future events like this happen more in this traffic clogged city.

Here is a brief write up:

Summer Streets is a Department of Transportation (DOT) initiative, designed to get New Yorkers to
reimagine the streets as vital, vibrant parts of our City’s network of open spaces. We’re literally transforming Park Avenue into a big
playground for three consecutive Saturday this August — 9th, 16th and
23rd from 7am – 1pm. We’re closing the streets from the Brooklyn Bridge
to Central Park along Lafayette, 4th Avenue, Park Avenue and 72nd Street
and opening them up to people to play, walk, run and bike.

Other cities around the world are experimenting with similar programs,
but ours is one of the most ambitious and sure to be among the most high
profile.

To that end we want to document this program in a way that will inspire
a) the City to continue the program next year, b) more people to be
involved in future years and c) other cities considering undertaking
similar programs.

And since we have so many talented photographers in the City we decided
we would have a contest to document Summer Streets, with a jury and
prize and exhibit the winning photographs and create a book out of them.
Hopefully this will be much, much more inspirational than your typical
government report!

Thank you so much,

Daniel Kukla
