'De La Soul' and 'Girl Talk' Multimedia

Forecastle Festival 2007 :: Multimedia

http://www.patrickyen.com/forecastle/

Wow.

This was an amazing experience to be a part of:

Forecastle Festival 2007 in Louisville Kentucky

‘The largest gathering of musicians, artists, and activists in the American Midwest.’

This would not have been possible without the help

of many, many hard-working and dedicated photographers

including Christian Hansen, Brian Bohannon, and Jordan Pendley

(the list goes on and on).

For my design I decided to combine the photo gallery side-by-side

with the video gallery featuring De La Soul and Girl Talk.

I was responsible for designing this presentation

as well as editing the videos.

So many dedicated volunteers,

absolutely beautiful altruism.

I wish I had more time to have toned the photos

and make a better edit.

Oh well.

If you’re curious as to how to design something like this

the source flash file may be downloaded at:

http://www.patrickyen.com/forecastle/forecastle.fla

Or if you have Flash 8 instead of Flash CS3:

http://www.patrickyen.com/forecastle/forecastle-8.fla

You would also need the ThumbnailerPro component

that is available from flashloaded.com for $50:

http://www.flashloaded.com/flashcomponents/thumbnailerpro/

Just remember where you got the design.

That is one sweet interface, Patrick. Really nice mix of still and video images, both within the left-hand ‘motion’ box and the separate stills edit on the right that the user has control over while they’re watching/hearing the linear edit on the left. Well done.

Thanks Ed.

Wanted to note that there is a new photo gallery edit

from Forecastle’s curator.

A better edit.

Yeah, the edit is my only criticism. There are too many ultra-low-angle images of De La Soul. Other than that… wow… what a great piece! Very well done. I agree with Ed, the transition from motion to still was great. I love to see people using mm in new ways. Where is the piece going to end up?

So far they’ve posted it on the Forecastle Myspace profile:

http://www.myspace.com/forecastle

They’ve also put it on their server with a link to it on their blog:
