i hear you there… i lived in himachel pradesh last year — and in majnu ka tila — both of my camera’s were stolen on one hot, careless day.
i was just wondering….about passing customs — is it better to mail off my laptop, or carry it? are they going to charge me a tax in the airport?
thanks…alli

i carry a powerbook, two cameras, a bunch of lenses and miscelleaneous stuff and travelled to India over a dozen times, and was never bothered at the customs. there are loads of passengers (including resident Indians) who carry laptops and there are no difficulties whatsoever. there’s absolutely no need for you to mail anything…in fact, there’s a good chance that mailing a laptop will ensure that it’ll never get to its destination.

cheers!
