Desperately Seeking HD or HDV Cam...

Hi folks you may or may not have noticed I haven’t been here for a while…

But I’m back!!!!

I am also ABSOLUTELY DESPERATE to get a hold of a HD or HDV cam for something BIG I am doing.

Of course there is NO money, but I can do a barter for a day use to day use of all my stills kit for a HD or HDV. I would particularly love a Sony PMW EX1 but I do realize thats probably lunacy (though I’d throw in the use of my body for that!)

Does anyone have any suggestions- I have no $’s at the moment but I can promise red carpets and film fests with drinks etc!

The other thing is of course I need to do this ASAP and I need the camera in Sydney…

I know its asking the impossible, but you always have to try

Cheers

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Since I am in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, I can`t help you even if I own a HDV camera. This will at least put you at the top position to get attention.

Thanks Tomoko how’s it all going?

At the moment, I am selling my office furniture through Craigs List, and old books through Amazon, rather than any photos. It looks like you need to put your merchandise where people looking for them look at.

Good to have you back. You certainly have me curious about the project; can’t wait to see it.

There must be some sort of educational institution or art collective that has cameras they could loan on the cheap.

If I had one, I would send it your way.

Lisa, how long do you reckon you’re going to need this camera for? Do you also need to record on-camera interviews and such?

Cheers

Hey guys Thanks, thanks, thanks!

Maybe onto a cam at Sydney Uni- I hope anyway-

Looks like the next XE purchase is gonna have to be you guessed it a Sony PMW-EX1!

Bloody hell does it ever stop?

However I do think its the next wave folks, least I am not making a living out of stills alone, neither in print or exhibition and I am just not ready to retire yet… but I am too old to retrain (and wouldn’t really be satisfied either I don’t think) so I think we really need to modify our forms for the internet and the flog the hell out of our stories…

I reckon this has been coming for a long time…

Yep Mr Big! I will be doing the whole she-bang, its funny been hanging out with the film crowd, lordy, lordy they remind me of my old corporate photography days, heavy on the crew, light on the creativity…

No I certainly prefer this style of working- towards multi-media, sort of suits an ADHD person like myself.

I think this is the future my friends, the art of course will be making the stills and vid sit nicely with one another. That has still a way to go yet… but its getting there..

Still brings me back to the point of as long as its a good story and visually arresting it will always go to the top of the pile…

Cheers and thanks again folks!!!!!

PS Mr Big. I actually need the camera for a day a week ’til the 12th/13th August and then from then until the 31st August and then its done. So all up its about 3 weeks from now.

Hi Lisa,

It sounds like you have found your way to a cam. Your post certainly reminded me of an old Sony DV camera (new in a box variety my late father never got to use) sitting in my mother`s house which I need to use to practice on.

Well you go, Lisa … and please let us know when the results are available for viewing.

BTW have you seen the Aussie film “Japanese Story”?. Watched it yesterday (we had a typhoon holiday here) and really enjoyed it. Great example of non-Hollywood filmmaking. :)

UUUmmmm Lisa …….. did you think to ask that nice Mr Stephen Dupont if he could assist ….. if he is in the country/Sydney etc ???
By the way Bignose (If I may call you that!) ….. yeah …… Japanese Story …. great movie ….. one of those movies that shows what you can do with a budget of next to nothing!!

lisa – you should look at the Canon HF-10. Very cool little camera. You’re looking for something big and professional. The HF10 is small and discrete. Maybe the size of a Leica M with no lens. But probably not that heavy. Records on internal HD plus SDHC cards. No blinking tape. ‘Not sure the mic options would be up to snuff for what you’re doing, however. Good luck on your project.

Hi Lisa,

you’re probably more likely to get access to someone’s expensive camera equipment if the owner comes attached with it i.e. collaboration.

Much easier to bring in a camera operator (and camera owner) with the promise of a credit than saying you’ll probably bring they’re tools for their livelihood all back in one piece.

Also, unless you know your video chops the other operator will probably also give you some better footage (and more importantly sound) than you might be able on your first attempt. Having a camera operator also means that you get to concentrate on interviewing, a much more crucial ingredient than pretty pictures.

The real legwork and effort comes in post… the editing. That’s where it comes together (eventually), where your vision comes to fruition.

All the best with it Lisa,

Tyler
