Digital Magazines

Yesterday as I was researching about Newsweek Japan, I learned a new trend in magazine publishing. In addition to print editions, they are published in digital versions. Of course this trend is big in the USA, but I noticed that a good number of Japanese print magazines have been available in digital versions.

The US site is http://www.zinio.com and the Japanese site which works in collaboration with zinio is http://www.fujisan.co.jp

Are there other digital magazine publishers around the world?

Have you subscribed to one?

What are your thoughts on them?

Thanks for the tip tomoko, zinio is pretty cool. Much cheaper to read some of these photography magazines than purchasing them for ourtrageous prices from bookstores in Japan.

You are welcome, Torin.

You were talking about the American photo magazines, correct? Paper magazines can be quite heavy and the shipping costs are getting higher and higher. I experienced that with Japanese photo magazines which I can purchase in the USA.

Are the digital versions only for the overseas readers of any magazines? I wonder who are buying the digital versions.

I doubt it.

I understand that the digital version of Newsweek Japan is not equivalent to the print version. There is more, like the English original and the links on the documents which you can click. It sounds like a hybrid between the digitized print magazine and the web magazine.

I don`t know which is preferable. In either case, the publishers are interested in regaining the pocketbook of subscribers. There might a situation where there is little ads and the publishers` revenues rely more heavily on subscribers.
