Looks interesting, but it’s limited to residents of the United States.

Alex, who’s trying to belittle Richard? i just posted my own link, just like you posted Erica’s.
Are you so annoyed that i wouldn’t give you a Nepalese fixer that you’re attacking me here? Thanks, Now i know i made the right choice.
|
Hey, everyone. I am not feeling belittled. No problems. Can’t we all just get along? There is too much conflict in the world already to quibble over such small things.
Peace.

Good one Matt, you got my vote!

I’m just glad to see that some people still have a sense of humor. Not that there is anything funny about Porn stars on ice skates. That’s a very serious topic indeed. Someone sent me a message (a fellow rpcv) telling me that my project did not measure up. Basically they thought it was too boring and bland – compared it to photographing their next door neighbors (to which I replied – could be interesting depending on the neighbors). In any case, I was thinking how the projects that usually get funding are the sensational and anything having to do with bloodshed and conflict.
I really admire the photographers who risk it all on the front lines, but that ain’t me babe. I used to think that is what I wanted to do, but now I realize that I just don’t have it in me.
In any case, I replied that maybe I should have proposed a dream assignment something like this: to photograph one-legged blind nuns who care for invalid sufferers of Hanson’s Disease and sex addiction who are in the middle of a civil war/famine and all are transvestites. Or maybe I could just propose to document the lives of Paris Hilton, Miley Cyrus and Lydnsay Lohan. In any case – those are the kind of things that would get notice. I’m not cynical – am I?
Photographing Peace Corps volunteers can be just as interesting – or very boring. Just depends. Trust me on that. As a “returned” (as if you ever return from such an experience) Peace Corps volunteer – the experience was on one hand the most challenging, exciting and interesting experience of my life – with interludes of much boredom, frustration, and feelings I can’t even describe. This is why I wish to travel around the world photographing other Peace Corps volunteers. I am really interested in how their experiences compare. I also know that there is so much potential for visual story telling. The clash of cultures, the diverse people, the challenges, and etc. Maybe not as sensational as blind nuns suffering from the disease of the week and the latest natural/man made disaster in rehab with Lyndsay Lohan, but then again – what is?

Just as i thought, this is personal, again.
I didn’t write “just like Erica did” so i don’t know where you get your quote from. What i wrote was “just like you posted Erica’s”. big difference. and as you can see a couple of other people posted theirs. what’s wrong with that? Nobody but you sees a problem here. lighten up
As i said to you in my reply to your PM, “I prefer not to pass on my fixers to people i don’t know”, the reason is that you need to trust that these people will not do anything stupid with your fixers like getting them arrested, or just behaving the wrong way (i.e. in a immature way). You can ask the dozens of people i did help, people who actually know me for more than 5 minutes before asking for favors.
Again, thanks for validating my initial response.
As to having a drink with you? sure. anytime. as soon as you give me some free contacts with your clients.

I’m a little disappointed. Thought I would get a little more support from fellow lightstalkers for Name Your Dream Assignment. It only takes a moment to vote. Please vote. Thank you.

Richard, I changed my post to include all of us..maybe that will help.

The rules say “Online voters will be allowed to vote for as many entries, which they believe showcase originality and creativity, as desired, but shall be limited to one (1) vote for each particular entry.”
So vote for all of us!

Thought I would go ahead and post my proposal here as well:
Document life in Zimbabwe while the country’s people suffer economic collapse, land seizures, lack of healthcare, food shortages and crumbling public services under the dysfunctional leadership of Robert Mugabe’s dictatorship.
The story of Zimbabwe over the last decade is one of the most discouraging examples of a once prosperous country’s government taking increasingly self-destructive steps and pushing it passed the point of ruin.
In the last year alone Zimbabwe has suffered through political violence, a cholera epidemic, land seizures, food shortages, malnutrition and the worst inflation in the world—-all of it compounded by President Robert Mugabe’s unwillingness to step down or acknowledge that he was democratically defeated in March elections, or even acknowledge many of the problems facing the people of his country.
In June 2008, I covered the election violence for Newsweek. During this period approximately 120 MDC supporters were killed by Mugabe-supported thugs. Thousands were also displaced, beaten, raped, or subjected to torture at Zanu-PF ‘re-education’ camps. This body of work was subsequently shown at the 2008 Angkor Photo Festival and one image of the funeral for a young MDC supporter was selected for Newsweek’s Year in Review.
In December 2008, I returned to Zimbabwe to document the cholera epidemic. Due to poor leadership and an imploding healthcare system, this treatable disease was allowed to mushroom into a catastrophe that to date has already infected 70,000 people and claimed over 3,000 lives.
Despite all the hardships, I have met some incredible individuals in Zimbabwe this year…people who have lost loved ones to violence and cholera, others who have been tortured, persecuted, and some who the government has sought to silence, yet still remain defiant.
More than anything, this project would be about giving them a voice and as Czech writer Milan Kundera mused, “to show that people without fear still exist” in this country.
If awarded this grant I would use the funds to delve deeper into Zimbabwe’s issues with a documentary project that brings to light human rights abuses and documents the struggles of daily life. Likewise, I would also strive to highlight the failings of the country’s leadership and the failings of the international community and regional African powers who have not adequately pressured Mugabe’s government to enact change.

A Deal?
I’ll pay 1$ to each vote if i win.
Even if i get all 33,000 LS members to vote for me, i still get to keep 17,000$ to do what i love.
Simple, vote and leave me a comment so i can keep track of who to pay at the end.
You can vote multiple times with different email accounts, if you want to make a little more cash…
|
Guilad, is this retroactive? I mean, do I still get my dollar even though I voted for you before you installed this new clause?
|
|
|
|
|
I think I should get at least 50 cents for voting for you before there was even a legit bribe in place, regardless of you winning or not.
|
18 votes? over 33,000 members on LS and you can’t bother helping your colleagues for 10 seconds?? you suck. but that’s not new…
|
|
|

I’m only about 75 votes out of the Top 20. Help me out?
|
|
|
I only need about 1,200 votes to make it to the top! almost there! I’ve already started spending the 50,000$!
|
You’ve got my vote Guilad ;-)
