Ecuador advice
Has anyone traveled along the border between Ecuador and Colombia? I’m planning a trip to this area and need some advice… what to expect, best way of getting around, is it best to secure your own transportation, how do you rent an rv in Ecuador, etc?? Many thanks! Lorena

I was on the border last spring. Things were chill, lots and lots of checkpoints. We traveled by bus in the day. The police/military at the checkpoints were especially interested in how much cash we were carrying and the size of the bills…
no problems for us, then.

I;m not sure about renting an RV but there is a pretty comprehensive bus system from city to city in Ecuador. I felt pretty safe, there are a lot of checkpoints. The buses are pretty cheap and most major cities have a bus station with a variety of routes. Quito’s is huge obviously, Otavalo is another town further north with a lot of routes. Haven’t really been close to Colombia via the bus. There are also a ridiculous amount of people getting on and off the buses trying to sell you things. My advice is to bring a good pair of cheap looking headphones so you don’t have to listen to sales pitches dealing with everything from chocolate to herbal remedies. Of course, take in some of it as it is the culture … it’s just gets tiresome after awhile.

I second every advice said here. RV for rent you wont find in Ecuador. But you could rent a car for as low as $50 a day if you want to do your own driving. If you need help PM me . Be safe
