It isn’t a contest, so there are no “winners” per se. I think the operative term should be honorees. The luckiest of you, will be on the Green Team.:) As a teammate, who is now a good friend and colleague told me on the bus…

just be prepared to go hard, or go home, as everything will change should one apply all the resources at your disposal while attending.

(I’m smiling thinking about all you guys and gals who are tossing at night over this) It’s a good thing, because it means you deserve to be there regardless of the outcome.

Good luck to all,
EHRG

Last year they sent an acceptance e-mail on June 21st, they also posted the invited participants profiles that same day. We’ll see if it’s the same this year. Best of luck.

by Aga Łuczakowska | June 16, 2007 15:37 | Katowice, Poland |

though this was the first time I applied.

this was like waitin for grad school letters in march all over again.

well good luck to everyone I’m vying for spots with.

by Peter Hoffman | June 16, 2007 16:53 | naperville, IL, United States |
Glad to see that I am not the only one constantly checking the email and peeking on the website for hints! By mail? Great now I am going to hear my mailbox calling out my name, saying, “check me, check me”.

Good luck to all, but completely crossing fingers for myself as well!

How cool would it be to put faces, names, and personalities together after bumping into folks online!

I get chills just thinking about the possibility of such a PJ Love fest!

end of June

by Aga Łuczakowska | June 18, 2007 07:37 | Katowice, Poland |
It wasn’t around when I young enough to be eligible, so I can only say that selecting who participates is bound to be one helluva hard job.

And, from what I’ve seen of the material in your galleries, among the Lightstalkers on this thread I’ll bet the quality of the work of the winners is only a gnat’s eyelash away those who don’t get selected (of course hopefully ALL of the LS applicants will be accepted).

by Neal Jackson | June 18, 2007 11:19 | Washington, DC, United States |
yes i am sure many good shooters applied…

by Jorge Dirkx | June 18, 2007 11:31 | Antwerp, Belgium |
Emails were just sent out.

crossing fingers now!

by Jorge Dirkx | June 19, 2007 17:39 | Antwerp, Belgium |
there’s an age limit?

by sandra c roa | June 19, 2007 17:47 | New York, United States |
Technically no age limit that I can find named. But the objective of the workshop seems to be to benefit serious photogs who are just starting their careers. While I suppose that starting a professional photographer career is possible at, say, 50 years of age, I cannot imagine that person would stand the same chance of selection as others to whom the mortality tables would award a longer career.

by Neal Jackson | June 19, 2007 18:12 | Washington, DC, United States |
Does anyone know if you get an email regardless, or only if accepted?

by Rene Edde | June 19, 2007 18:16 | Chicago, IL, United States |

Michael… congratulations!

I hope we (people from lightstalkers who have been accepted) will recognize each other in October .. i think we should keep in touch, and before workshop contact one more time :) and than definately meet each other in October :) otherwise i can imagine it will be hard – 100 students + 150 editors… so many people!

by Aga Łuczakowska | June 20, 2007 16:34 | Katowice, Poland |
Congrats everyone, see you in October!!! So many LS’ers in, I love it!!!

by Justin Mott | June 20, 2007 16:55 | San Francisco, United States |
Congratulations to everyone who made it into the workshop, and everyone out there on the waiting list.

I feel very lucky to have the chance to attend this year’s workshop.

by Peter Grigsby | June 20, 2007 23:33 | Arcata, Calif., United States |
OKAY GUYS AND GALS…ENOUGH HIGH FIVES, CONGRATS, “I FEEL LUCKYS” and “I’M IN’S”. It’s not about getting in, it’s about what you put in, and take out.

Start thinking very hard about what you are going to do to connect with your subjects, on minimal sleep, minimal food, (if you have time to eat anything other than one meal a day) all while making new friends, making new contacts, and if you are lucky, a kiss from the cutie you were eyeing all weekend, while holding back tears on the car trip/or flight home. Thats when you know you earned it.

Some of you might dislike what I am saying here and thats fine. You won’t on Monday morning, October 8th. I’m smiling thinking about you all…

Storm on

Edourad, I don’t see why anyone needs to temper their enthusiasm in any way shape or form…..they earned a little celebration. There aren’t many pats on the back in this “business” such that it is…....congratulations Lance, especially. Don’t feel you need this to validate buddy, you got it…...

by Andy Levin | June 21, 2007 01:04 | The Dirty South, United States |
competition is good for you

by Eros Hoagland | June 21, 2007 01:08 | Berkeley, United States |
Andy,

I’m glad you disagree, means we are alive!!!!...but don’t make me look like the mean spirited, task master raining on the parade. As you know, one of the most important parts of this “business” is being sensitive to the human condition. That applies to your collegues as well. There are quite a few, young, accomplished photographers who are questioning their entire career right now, because they weren’t accepted. I spent an hour on the phone with one of them yesterday afternoon. It was horrible. His stand alone portfolio was better than quite a few I saw, and I looked at every single one of them. Thats what I did this afternoon.

As far as I am concerned, in relation to EAW all they have done is been accepted. Do so quietly. Search out the portfolios that appeal to you, and call the photographers who shot them to say congratulations. Like I did.

Andy, I respect your work and have to say, No here. Public thread, one line high fives isn’t what it’s about. Then again, I’m learning why I stay away from posts in general. Napoleon House on me next time I’m in town.

Best,
Edouard

by Edouard H.R. Gluck | June 21, 2007 04:27 | NYC, United States |
I think if you didn’t get in, you don’t need to question your career…at least to me there are better ways to gauge such things than acceptance to a workshop. A passion is a passion either way right? If you want it to be your career theres no “Barnstorm requirement”

I didn’t get in, and while I would have liked to I just see it as an impetus to do better…for me and for many folks who didn’t get in (I know not everyone) there will be another chance and when that chance comes you can make sure you are more prepared than you were this year.

In the end it’s all subjective with the portfolio review (everyone that didn’t get in has someone that believes they should have….because you need that rec letter)...so the argument that someone who didn’t get in has a better portfolio than someone who did doesn’t hold much weight to me. And I don’t think it’s based 100% on portfolios anyways.

Anyyyyyyywaysssss
I think being excited is all good and deserved … just do the best while you are there.

by Peter Hoffman | June 21, 2007 04:38 | naperville, IL, United States |
Peter, Andy, Eros

All of you have valid points. It was never my intent to not tell people to celebrate. I guess I just felt bad for those who didn’t get in, because I know how much attending this workshop boosted my career. Call me naive, and simple, I just want everybody to have their moment in the sun.

We are done here. Congrats to all of you!!! :)

by Edouard H.R. Gluck | June 21, 2007 04:54 | NYC, United States |
I’m definitely looking forward to this experience in October… and even though patting each other on the back here feels very uncomfortable to me, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it.

For those who didn’t get in this time ‘round, you simply can’t let it get you down… if anything it has to be fuel to keep pushing!! I’ve tried twice before and finally, “third time’s a charm”... I know that my friend Casey Templeton, CPoY ‘05, was turned down twice before getting in… and he’s doing amazing work. I’m sure there are countless other examples just like this..

Perseverance is key!
