Started as a commercial photographer using
larg format camera’s. Converted himself into a
documentary photographer, capturing life on the edge
in all aspects.
Real moments, real images that reflect the emotions
of the photographers at the moment, taking a very
personal and sometimes bizar point of view.
Panoramic images that put the subject into the wide
background of their daily life without expecting the
next day, is part of the photo-essay “the edge of
civilization”. The “edge of civilization” takes you to:
Balkans, Caucasus and Chechnya, Iran, Iraq, India,
Pakistan, Afghanistan and the Israel / Palestinian
and will continue as his work brings the camera to
other places.
Eddy van Wessel has worked with major international
magazines like Stern, Paris Match, LeMonde2
and The Washington Post Magazine. He was 2
times photographer of the year in 1996 and 2004
with stories from Chechnya and Iraq and exhibits
worldwide in galeries and fotofestivals.
