12 years ago with one manual focus camera, and no formal photographic training Edouard set out into the world, with the hope and aspirations of becoming a Photojournalist. What transpired is a remarkable story and chain of events set forth by passion, drive and luck allowing him to live as well as document some of the most memorable moments of the last decade. From his first story covering Elian Gonzalez on the streets of Miami, to ground combat in the alleys of Iraq. NASCARS Victory Lane to climbing the granite walls of Yosemite National Park or Hurricane ravaged U.S. Gulf Coast, Edouards Images are fueled by the simple premise that all things are indeed photographable, but capturing them with heart…will yield extraordinary results. His work has been exhibited at venues such as Aperture NYC, 209 Elizabeth Gallery NYC, Viridian Washington D.C., Housing Works NYC,and are part of the permanent photography collections of private and public organizations to include Conde Nast Publications, The Annenberg Foundation and The Museum of Fine Arts Houston under world renowned curator Anne Wilkes Tucker. His photographs have appeared in publications such as GQ Magazine, Time, Newsweek,The New York Times, STERN, PDN Online, The Wall Street Journal,International Herald Tribune, Guardian UK, USA Today,The Chicago Tribune and on award winning broadcast programs including CNN’s American Morning, Anderson Cooper 360,Newsnight with Aaron Brown,CBS Sunday Morning, NBC’s Today Show, and Nightly News with Brian Williams. Edouard is a regular contributor to the Associated Press and Bloomberg News Global photo reports. He has worked for NFL, The History Channel, Travel Channel and U.S. Department of Defense highlighting his diverse photographic interests and skills. His first book was the 2006 GQ Magazine project “This is our War – A Soldiers Portfolio.”
Hailed as the pioneering example of digital imagerys impact on the battle field, this hardbound, 224 page, 256 color photo collaborative based on his work in Iraq, features images taken only by service members from the first year of the Iraq conflict. All proceeds from sale of this book were donated to the Fallen Heroes Fund to help service members catastrophically disabled in Iraq and Afghanistan. Edouards most recent projects have truly run the gamut and turned his focus from behind the lens to in front. In 2010,he was cast as principle character, “Ed Johnson” in the Universal Studios/Paul Greengrass Film, “Green Zone” starring Matt Damon, Greg Kinnear, Amy Ryan, and Jason Isaacs. Winter 2011, an interview and retrospective chapter of his Iraq work was part of Oxford professor Janina Struks newest book, “Private Pictures: A Soldiers Inside View Of War”—Forward by Andy McNab of “Bravo Two Zero”.November 2012 is the capstone event in his career as a photojournalist when the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, in partnership with the Annenberg Foundation and Yale University Press will debut an unprecedented exhibition,12 years in the making exploring the experience of war through the eyes of photographers. “WAR/PHOTOGRAPHY: Images of Armed Conflict and Its Aftermath” includes nearly 500 objects, including photographs, books, magazines, albums and photographic equipment. The photographs were made by over 280 photographers from 28 nations who have covered conflict on six continents over 165 years, from the Mexican-American War in 1846 through present-day conflicts. Organized by a curatorial team consisting of Anne Wilkes Tucker, Gus and Lyndall Wortham Curator of Photography, Will Michels, photographer and Glassell School of Art instructor, and Natalie Zelt, MFAH curatorial assistant for photography, the exhibition will travel to the Annenberg Space for Photography, Los Angeles; the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; and the Brooklyn Museum. The exhibition is accompanied by a 600-page catalogue of the same title, with interviews and essays by the curators, contributing scholars and military historians. Opening night,11 Nov 2012.
Edouard is honored to have been additionally selected to participate in the documentary portion of the exhibition, “The Photographers Voice” by Patricia Lanza and the Annenberg Foundations Oscar nominated production team.
