El Malecon: A wall of Shame Photography Exhibit

This photographic project narrates the untold story of Santo Domingo’s beachfront tourist area: that of the community of children and adults who live in the often inhospitable caves and reefs that surround El Malecón. Gallagher’s work shows us the everyday life of these people as they struggle to find success and happiness while fighting poverty, marginalization and police persecution. These photographs are an effort to break down the wall of shame that divides El Malecón into two very disparate worlds.
