entering Gaza

Hi. I’m traveling in the Middle East and want to visit a friend in Gaza. While I do have a media card, I don’t have a journalist visa for Israel. What do I need these days to enter Gaza? Thanks.

Unless things have changed dramatically, and I don’t think they have, you will need an Israeli press pass from the Government Press Office, in the Beit Agron building on Hillel Street in Jerusalem.

The Israelis aren’t keen on handing them out, however, and they especially don’t like freelancers. You will need to show them a national or international press card, a letter of accreditation from a newspaper, magazine, or agency and, sometimes, some samples of published work.

The whole process can take from a couple of days to just under two weeks, and seems to be purely arbitrary.

An actual journalist visa isn’t necessary. The press pass is though.

There are plenty of other threads here on LS you can search for about entering Gaza and Israeli press cards.

Good luck.
