EOS 1D MKIII
I’ve been using the MKIII for the last couple of days and i gotta say it is rather impressive. New controls take a little getting used to, but the quality at higher ISO’s is a vast improvement. 3200 is impressive, in line with 1600 on the MKII’s. 6400 is also usable if your stuck. The colours are better too.
The one thing that really bugs me, which Canon still neglects to address is their viewfinders for manual focussing. No use having a camera with the ability to shoot at 3200, 6400’s if you can’t focus the bloody thing..

Would love for Canon to release a Raw converter for CS2 for the MKIII’s files too.
From a review of the MII , (assuming the MIII is the same in this regard): “The camera’s focussing screens are interchangeable; an optional new “Super Precision Matte” Ec-S focussing screen enables easier manual focussing….”
Glad you like yours, can’t wait until my two ship!!
Don’t hold your breath on RAW converter compatibility with CS2. Adobe is notorious about NOT supporting backwards, ergo forcing us into the newest, always.
Thanks Michael, would like to hear from anyone who have swapped their focusing screens to assist Manual focusing.
Amen James , there are times when I miss a split prism ,why cant they deal with this? BTW cu wednsday.

I use for RAW with my Mark III Lightroom it works and next week will be there the RAW Plug-in but only for the CS 3 so not for CS 2 ?? and what do you think about to arrange till 20 difference lenses you back or front focusing in the camera this great I have don it for 16 lenses and the camera recognise all individual so you dont need so often the 3200 or 6400 ISO just open you lens more this is great. and than the weight 250 gram lest by 2 cameras is half a kilo lighter. and the size of the battery smaller to great I love it.

James you can convert the MKIII files to DNG using the standalone app, then open them in CS2, apologies if you were aware of this.
Interesting point John. I wonder if not introducing backwards compatible plug-ins is a strategy to get more support behind DNG…
I’d say it’s to encourage sales of CS3… there’s also word going around that Adobe have decided to give the DNG format the axe as it never really caught on as they’d hoped. I mean, what’s the point in converting your CR2/NEF files to another format, anyway?
Also, has anyone had a chance to have a close look at the RAW files out of the Mark III? Any really amazing improvements over the 12 bit cameras?
Ed – They are probably hoping that camera companies will built the format into their bodies.
I’m taking a Mark III up to the Blue Mountains tomorrow, where it’s apparently going to snow, so we’ll do a couple of side-by-side comparisons and see if we can tell the difference.
