Extracting Audio from Video

I may need to extract some audio from a video shot in Afghanistan last year. Is it possible to extract the audio from the video using FCP?

I use MMconvert http://mmconvert.235soft.org/en_us/ its free and i only use it occasionaly so its in my budget :)

If its digital video, its very easy using FCP. Import into FCP, edit the video to include just the audio you want, and export sound into AIFF, MPEG, whatever…..but using FCP is probably overkill for that, there are other apps that are cheaper and simpler for doing this as Gary has suggested.

Thanks everyone.

I asked about FCP because the writer has the video in Afghanistan and does not know how to extract the audio. He mentioned he had FCP but made an aborted attempt to extract the sound using it.

BTW I am not sure if it was shot digitally, I remember him using tapes.

I will pass on all the info and links.
