    <description>Alexander Garcia is a Chicago-based photographer and photojournalist with twenty years professional experience. He specializes in portraiture, events, travel and feature projects and documentary work. His versatility and creativity has led him to staff positions at the Los Angeles Times and currently the Chicago Tribune, where he has worked on several national and international projects. Among numerous national and state awards, including Illinois Photographer of the Year from the Illinois Press Photographers Association, he received a Golden Eye - 1st Place award from the World Press Photo contest in Amsterdam, the world's most prestigious photography contest.  He also shares a Pulitzer Prize with the staff of the Chicago Tribune for coverage of gridlock at O'Hare. Garcia was selected to participate in the largest photo book project ever undertaken  &quot;America 24/7&quot; . He had three photos published from among the million photos submitted by more than 1000 participating photographers. He was also one of 125 top photojournalists in the country chosen for the special book project &quot;A Day in the Life of the U.S. Armed Forces&quot;, in which he was also published.   Over the past decade Garcia has spent almost a year in Cuba, most  working in the bureau of the Chicago Tribune, the first U.S. newspaper to open a permanent bureau on the island. Garcia lives in the Chicago area with his wife, Laura Husar Garcia, a freelance picture editor and photographer.
