I’m a bilingual photojournalist and educator based in Lima, Peru. I have a passion for stories related to social equality, education and the environment. My love for photojournalism began in high school when I took a black-and-white photography class using my great grandfather’s Pentax SP500.

Before moving to Lima, Peru, in 2010, I worked as a staff photographer and multimedia editor at the St Louis Post-Dispatch. While in St. Louis I edited several multimedia projects and trained the photo staff in multimedia storytelling and editing. Reporting for Duty earned national recognition, including a regional Emmy award. In 2009 I was part of a team that was recognized as a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Breaking News Reporting for coverage of the Kirkwood City Hall shootings.

While in St. Louis, I also taught courses in multimedia production and photojournalism for Webster University. In the summer of 2009 and 2010 I led National Geographic Student Expeditions to Bar Harbor, Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands. In the summer of 2012 I look forward to leading a photo workshop in London for National Geographic Student Expeditions.

A native of Carrington, North Dakota, I graduated with honors from the University of Missouri with a degree in journalism. (And, no, I don’t talk like Margie in the movie Fargo!)

Living in a city of 8 million people has made me realize I am a small-town girl. I like adventures, meeting new people, nature, the color green, reading and eating, particularly Peruvian ceviche, my husband’s ají de gallina, Pad Thai, flourless chocolate cake and anything Mexican.
