Although homelessness isn't a new phenomenon in the eyes of San Francisco residents by any stretch, the epidemic has shown no signs of slowing down in recent years. The corner of Geary and Larkin lies in the heart of the Tenderloin where the highest population of homeless live. Amidst hardcore drug abuse, violence, and poverty, homeless from all walks of life struggle to survive here everyday.

After failing to find a vien in his arm, Paul has Richard fix him with a speedball in the neck. Paul, who is bipolar and manic depressive, says the heroin helps to calm the voices in his head down.
