    <description>Svetlana Bahchevanova became a photojournalist during the democratic transition in her native Bulgaria.  She was a working photographer when she joined the democratic forces. She became the chief photographer of the first democratic newspaper, documenting the end of a long lasting Communist regime. In this role she covered the coup attempt against the Russian president Boris Yeltsin, the democratic movements in Rumania, the former Yugoslavia, and the Baltic region. Her work focuses on issues of social justice and political change.
Svetlana has broad experience. From shooting the war in Kosovo for the Bulgarian News Agency to covering the visits of the Bulgarian president in the White House or his meeting with Yasser Arafat, from photographing the art of Paul McCarthy for W to a portrait session with Geoffrey Sachs for Capital, from covering the burial of a famous mafia boss for Paris Mach to shooting birds on the Danube Islands for National Geographic, BG. Svetlana feels comfortable in any situation and delivers highly skilled photographs to her clients.
Since 2001, Svetlana makes her home in Brooklyn, New York.  Currently she is a contributing photographer for Aurora Photos. Her most recent work &#226;&#8364;&#339;Brides for Sale&#226;&#8364;* explores the still existing old tradition among Tinsmiths gypsy clan.
