It was hardly "reportage" though, I was just recording what was happening in front of me. A witness, to the ongoing effort to make strangers' lives easier, to make lives last longer, a glimpse of people trying to make a difference. Chickened out two years ago when I first saw a bus right in front of me go on fire at a riot in the city. Being a different colour and having a credit card, I left. All those people who treated me so well, I didn't even say goodbye. Hadn't been able to pick up the camera ever since. Now living in Tokyo assisting commercial photographers as well as photojournalists visiting Japan. Watching how they become someone else's voice. Voices that might otherwise never be heard. I am available (as a fixer, translator, assistant) just about every day of the week. The whole "documentary photography" thing is stll kind of new to me. I have always taken pictures to please my subjects. My goal was never to get my pictures to be a feature in a magazine, but a photoframe in the living room or at the very best, inside someone's top pocket.
